HOWDY
My counseling style is equitable and relational, with previous clients saying that my humorous, laid-back approach to therapy put them at ease quickly. There is no power hierarchy here: I bring an expertise in mental health and you bring an expertise in your life. We need both to have a successful and productive counseling relationship!
I utilize different techniques to focus on three major systems that affect our mental health: the system of the body (trauma informed care, biofeedback, emotional mapping), the larger system of the community of origin (attachment, IFS) and the even larger system of culture and politics (how do your identities shape the way you see the world and it sees you?).
You deserve to be treated as a person, not a project. One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is that you will feel like you’re talking to a real human. My curiosity creates a non-judgmental atmosphere for our work and my ever-growing knowledge base is rooted in research-backed modalities of treatment.
Plus I'm pretty funny, which never hurts!
MY COUNSELING APPROACH
-

BODY
It all starts with the systems of the body and that big, beautiful brain that’s stored in it. We pay attention to the cues our body is giving us and learn tools for how to deal directly with the emotions stored there.
-

COMMUNITY
Your community of origin taught you the rules of operation: we look to it to understand the meaning making taking place behind your actions and for deeper insight into your motivations.
-

IDENTITY
Your identities within the therapeutic space as well as outside of it. These not only impact the way you view the world, but the way the world views you. We honor and seek to understand their impact together.
